In April of 2020 Veit began demolition of the Silver Lake Chimney Stack in Rochester, Minnesota. The aging stack had been a fixture of the Rochester skyline since 1968, but hasn’t been used since 2013 when the plant stopped burning coal to produce electricity. The Rochester Public Works determined that the deteriorating stack was a potential safety hazard and needed to be removed.
The smokestack consisted of two concentric chimneys, an inner lining of acid proof brick which carried the flue gas, and an outer concrete column that provided structural support for the chimney and protected it from frequent temperature changes.
