Peter started working at Veit in March 2020 as our general counsel and secretary. His primary responsibilities are risk management and litigation management, including negotiating contracts and mitigating risks related to claims, litigation, and insurance procurement. The negotiation process varies considerably from project to project — it’s highly customized work, and one size doesn’t fit all.
Peter earned his law degree from the William Mitchell College of Law in St. Paul (now known as the Mitchell Hamline School of Law). Before joining Veit, Peter served as general counsel for a national utility contractor and a property-casualty insurance company. He enjoys how every day brings different challenges at Veit and how there’s never a boring day here.
Thinking back on his career, Peter says his biggest point of pride was when he served as a project manager to construct a new headquarters building for the insurance company. It was a multi-million dollar project that he helped deliver ahead of schedule and under budget.
Peter has served many community, trade, and parish organizations as a volunteer leader. His favorite is a canine rescue operation, where he now serves as a board member. Rescuing the most at-risk dogs and providing a forever home brings him a great deal of joy.
Peter enjoys spending time with his wife and two college-aged kids. They like to spend free time on the water, either wake surfing or just cruising around in the boat.
