Demolition, Blasting

Project Overview

Veit contracted with Dairyland Power Cooperative to demolish the 500-foot stack, main building, and ancillary structures of Wisconsin’s retired Genoa Station #3 coal-fired 345MW power plant.

The demolition marked the end of an era and was a significant milestone in the final decommissioning and dismantlement of G-3 as part of Dairyland’s energy transition plans. “The G-3 power plant served the region for over 50 years,” Dairyland Power Cooperative President and CEO Brent Ridge said. “And did so in a safe, reliable, and affordable manner.”

Veit completed this project in three phases. Phase 1 consisted of the removal of the coal yard conveyor. Phase 2 consisted of the removal of the bag house and ancillary building. Finally, Phase 3 was the boiler house and stack removal. During phase 3 alone, Veit removed 13,000 tons of steel from the boiler house and stack and crushed 42,380 tons of concrete.
