Michael is our senior vice president of civil construction, and he has been with Veit since 2006. He oversees our earthwork and utility groups for the Wisconsin and Duluth regional offices and for “out-state” operations, which includes anything outside the Minneapolis-St. Paul metro.
Michael attended Minnesota State University Moorhead, and most of his career since graduation has been in project management and estimator roles with other construction companies. Today, he is an advisory board member for the MSUM construction management program, which allows him to give back and help the next generation get started in our industry.
He enjoys working in construction because it’s a fascinating industry. “Everything we construct is touched by so many people, from the bridge we travel on to the landfill that takes our garbage,” he says. “This industry provides a sense of accomplishment for everyone involved. It’s fulfilling to provide these services and see how we physically change the land and infrastructure around us for the better.” He likes working at Veit because he enjoys collaborating with our “fantastic group of people.”
Michael has many favorite projects, but his most recent is the Duluth Lakewalk in Duluth, MN. This rock revetment project stops the waves from eroding Duluth’s shoreline. It was a three-phase project, and Veit landed all three phases. Many tourists visit the Lakewalk every year, and it’s right by all of the hotels by Canal Park.
In his free time, Michael likes to hang out with his wife and children, and he’s a big fan of hunting.
