Veit served as the demolition subcontractor to Johnson Brothers Corporation for the removal of the original eastbound U.S. 150 McClugage Bridge spanning the Illinois River between Peoria & East Peoria, Illinois.
Following completion of the replacement tied-arch structure, Veit executed complex river demolition operations to safely dismantle the retired long-span cantilever bridge while maintaining environmental compliance & navigational safety.
Concrete & structural steel components were segregated & recycled, with approximately 95 percent of bridge materials diverted from landfill in alignment with project sustainability goals.
The McClugage Bridge demolition showcases Veit’s expertise delivering large-scale transportation infrastructure removals in active river environments. Through detailed planning, environmental stewardship, & coordination with multiple contractors & regulatory agencies, Veit helped advance a critical Illinois River crossing replacement while minimizing impacts to the surrounding community & waterway.
